’ Wednesday, July 14, 2010 The Region News mtzionregionnews@comcast.net Page 5 di Trevor Brothers, Sports Editor ml League leader Berry Con- struction faced off against 2-3!s Mt. Zion's I.O.O.E "Oddfellas" last Thursday. In what started out as a Top of the 1 st 18-0 massacre by Berry, took one heck of a turn to end at 27-20 Berry after 7 long innings. The MZ odd brothers dished out a little boom.boom.pew in a rally of magnificent proportions starting in the Bottom of the 3rd inning. The rally trend started as Justin Wheeler smacked out a Grand Slam to put the score at 25-14 Berry. It was all the MZ crew needed behind them as Pat Hilligoss, Joe Wallis, and Alex Lewis followed Wheeler to put the score at 25-]8 moving into the 4th inning. At the •mound for the Oddfellas, Spin Doctor Brandon Guernsey dished out his bag of tricks to h01d the usual hot bats of Berry as the game went on. When the construction crew man- aged a hit midway through the game the MZ defense contained the effort. Coach Grant Corum popped off a two-run Home in the 7th inning to put the final tally at 27-20. It was a huge step for a newteam like the 0ddfellows against a Vet- eran softball crew like Berry Construction. Down by 18 after the Top of the let in ning...the Oddfellows didn't give up and put the score near a win at 27-20 in the end. This one will probably hit the books as the sole rally of the Hayes Field Summer Sea- son. Coach Corum's thoughts on the game: "Due to a busy schedule, I was not able to show up until after this game had started,..when I got here and heard the score I thought oh no...but, this team did not let it get them down and we had big plays from alot of players tonight. We may not have picked up a wifi, but this effort was just as good to me." near win rry Wilhoit to play for 13 Illinois Bruins Conner "Willy" Wilhoit, catcher/outfielder Mt.
