Zion Village Board held a regular meeting on Monday, August 3. On the agenda was the presentation of a plaque to a retiring board member, discussion and approval of resolution authorizing the sale of surplus equipment, a resolution opening closed session minutes and a resolution authorizing the destruction of audio or video recordings of closed meeting sessions. The first item on the agenda was presenting a plaque to retiring board member Rick Bright. Mayor Mark Wells stated that Rick and his wife Debbie have moved out of the village and now live in Decatur. Bright had 21 years of service to the village. Bright has been a village trustee, Planning Commissioner, Parks and Recreation Commissioner, Economic Development Corporation board member and Police Board of Disciplinary Review Commissioner and been involved with the Mt. Zion Chamber. Mike and Trudy Jacobs stated the move was necessary at that time because they needed more space and the ability to set up kettles for cooking. Last fall they expanded the amount of room they were renting at their location. That has resulted in some major changes inside the shop. "We've made improvements from the ceiling to the floor," Trudy said "including LED lighting and a new checkerboard floor." They've also added some new equipment. Del's Express is the first Del's location with two poppers. The downtown location and the two Springfield locations only have one popper. They also now how three kettles for caramel corn and two kettles for caramel apples and fudge as well as new marble slabs for making caramel corn and fudge. For those who are patiently waiting for caramel apples they will be available September 1. Something newly added just this past week is an M&M display that allows you to pick from 21 different colors of the chocolate candies. This would be great for weddings, baby showers or any other special occasion. One of the newer popcorn flavors that they have is sea salt and cracked pepper. They also now have twelve flavors of candy sticks: cherry rainbow, sour apple, bacon, bubble gum, root beer float, orange creme, pina colada, pink lemonade, cinnamon, butter rum, watermelon and peppermint.
